Mockingbird News
We Recently had the pleasure to be involved with a CD for a
Great Cause, Compassionate Care For ALS (CCALS). Thanks to Jamie Peghiny for his
tireless effort in putting this together!
This from Mary Lester:
“Dear
Friends:
Many
of you know that my husband, Tom Monahan, passed away last year due to
complications from ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Tom loved composing and playing
irreverent, non-traditional bluegrass and swing with his collection of
amazingly-talented musician pals at festivals across New England. Those friends
came together this year to record a collection of Tom's original songs. The
CD includes a range of his music from bluegrass, jazzy swing, gospel…and a
couple that are just plain twisted.
"The
Manics Pick on Monahan" CD is now complete and available for purchase
through the Compassionate Care ALS website. All proceeds go directly to this
amazing organization. The CDs make great holiday gifts and are easy to order.
You can listen to song clips and purchase from this link:

Compassionate
Care ALS (CCALS.org) provided
uniquely personalized support and equipment when we needed it most. Because of
their independent, non-profit status, they can work beyond the boundaries of
traditional providers and insurance companies--with virtually no paperwork or
hassle for the families they serve.
Another
way great way to support the effort is to mention the CD to your personal
connections through Facebook and other social media tools by including this
link: http://www.ccals.org/monahan-manic.php ,
along with a short note about why this cause matters to you. In addition, I've
created a page on Facebook called "Tom Monahan Secret World
Headquarters" with info about the CD, more clips, lyrics and photos.
It's fully accessible to the public and does not require visitors to join
Facebook or "Like" the page in order to explore the content. It would
be great if you would send your friends there as well.
Check
out "Mad As Hell", a snarky swing tune written as a wedding gift to a
dear friend. There's an audio clip on Tom's page. Enjoy!
Cheers,
Mary
Lester”

Old News:
September 11th, 2007
On Saturday, September 8 the sounds of Bluegrass, Dixieland, old time
mountain picking, and the strains of ethnic dance tunes from all over the
world flowed from Boarding House Park in Lowell, Massachusetts, during the
28th Annual Banjo and Fiddle Contests.
Banjo and fiddle players of all ages, experts and beginners alike, competed
for cash prizes and trophies in this annual competition. Participants ranged
in age from 4 to 75, many traveling from as far away as North Carolina and
Quebec.
We are pleased to announce that two of our students walked away with honors
from this contest. We are so proud of our students, and they should be proud
of themselves, for a job well done!!
Congratulations go to:
