Guitar and Bass

Dan Hunt Dan Hunt is a successful artist/musician and has been performing for over 25 now with Jubilee Gardens and the Red Riders! As Lead Guitarist for the Rhythm Rockers, Dan has opened up for bands such as Foghat and Grand Funk RR. Dan is one of the best jazz, swing, and blues guitarists in New England.  Dan has been teaching guitar at Mockingbird Music for over 4 years. We are very proud to have him here!

 

Wendy Sobel Wendy SobelWendy Sobel is a guitarist/singer/songwriter with 30 years of performance experience to her credit.   She was part of the wildly popular band "Girl's Night Out" in the 1980's and the Boston Music Awards nominated duo "Daring Angels" in the 1990's.   She has shared the stage with artists such as Dan Fogelberg, Kathy Mattea and Livingston Taylor to name a few.   Wendy teaches both acoustic and electric guitar and also teaches voice and songwriting.  She is a true believer in music being, first and foremost, fun and fulfilling.  

Phip Wheelock Phip WheelockPhip Wheelock is an accomplished vocalist, fingerstyle and flatpick guitar player, and performs currently with "Blackstone Run" (www.phip.us/music/BlackstoneRun/). Previous bands include "The Sun Mountain Band" (www.sunmountainfiddler.com) and "Renya" (Rochester, NY), "Bill Hall and the North Wind" (RI), and "Bluegrass Special" (CT). Phip currently sings with the First Unitarian Church of Providence (RI), and is a former member the Rochester Oratorio Society, Eastman-Rochester Chorus, Providence Singers and Opera Providence. Phip taught Bluegrass Academy guitar workshops at the 2007 and 2008 Joe Val Bluegrass Festivals, and teaches  mandolin as well as beginner through advanced guitar at Mockingbird Music.  

Sean Farias Sean FariasBassist Sean Farias originates from the New England area.  He completed his undergraduate studies in music performance at UMASS-Dartmouth and his master's degree at the Longy School of Music. Being an in demand bassist, Sean is highly regarded as an outstanding musical and organic performer on his instrument.  Having a well-rounded foundation and an open mind to all styles of music has led Sean to perform in a wide variety of situations whether it be jazz, pop, rock, classical, world, folk, or theatre. He has been fortunate enough to perform with many local and international artists on the cutting edge of contemporary improvised music including the likes of George Garzone, Charlie Kohlhase, Bob Gullotti, Jeff Galindo, Santi Debriano, Eric Hofbauer, and Jim Robitaille.  He has performed throughout the country on both electric and upright bass including some of New England's local theatre houses such as Theatre By The Sea (RI), The Orpheum (MA), Dean College, and Wheelock College.  In 2009 Sean recorded on PBS documentary "The Mosque In Morgantown," named Best Documentary Feature at the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival.

 

Banjo, Guitar & Ukulele

Glenn Nelson Glenn Nelson has been playing and teaching five-string and four-string banjo for 23 years and currently performs with "Wide Open Spaces" (http://www.wideospaces.com) and "Acoustic Planet" encompassing world music, folk, jazz and bluegrass. Glenn has taught workshops and performed with with Bill Keith, Tony Trischka, Jens Kreuger, Sam Bush, John Reischman, Don Steirnberg, Alan Munde, Eric Weissberg, and Radim Zenkyl among others. Glenn teaches all levels from introductory to advanced while focusing on the individual student's needs.

 

Mandolin

John Tibert John Tibert is a gifted mandolin player. John has been playing mandolin for over 20 years performing in bands  Modern Drifters, Stone Gap Junction & Muleteam & The Stable Hands Bluegrass Band. He has opened for Chesapeake( w/ Jimmy Gaudreau, Mike Auldridge, T. Micheal Coleman, Moondi Klein). Teaching mandolin is second nature to John and his knowledge and approach is expert in the mandolin field!

 

Drums

Brad Poulin Brad Poulin: Our Awesome New Drum and Percussion Instructor! Brad Poulin has been playing drums and percussion professionally for the past 25 years.  Disciplined in Classic Rock, Blues, Country and Bluegrass, Brad has played with many bands; "Jim Rivera Band", "Wildlife", "Blue Lightnin'" and "Triple Threat" to name a few.  Brad has also performed as a session drummer with Buddy Cage (New Riders Of The Purple Sage), Michael Falzarno (Hot Tuna), and Frank Wakefield!!!!   Brad has been teaching drums for 10 years, beginners through advanced on drum set, Conga and Bongos.  We are pleased to have his expertise!  And Yes, You Can Have Lessons On Our State Of The Art Roland V Drums or Acoustic Drums.

Matthew Mandella Mathew Mandella: Our  Drum instructor, Matt, rhythmically focuses on Rock, Alternative and World Music Styles. His talent is unequivocal and strength in stick drums and drum instruction is precise and focused.  This young and talented drummer's  classes are rapidly filling up, stop in, you might get a glimpse of this rising star before he gets signed by a popular ska band!.  This popular session drummer is only available for booking when not studying music, or teaching here, ... don't miss the opportunity to study drumming with him!

 

Piano and Violin

Anthony Bondi Anthony Bondi:  Tony has over 30 years experience playing, performing and teaching all over the United States and is a five time National Piano Audition Winner with The American Federation Of Musicians.  Julliard Trained and a Graduate of the Brooklyn College-Conservatory, Tony also studied and performed with Dorothy DeLay Master Class (Aspen Music Festival)  and Itzhak Perlman in Master Classes.  Tony is a gifted Violinist and Pianist and we are extremely proud to have him teaching both instruments here.  Welcome Tony!

Jean Kelly Joyce Jean Kelley Joyce: A piano Player and Teacher for many years, Jean offers a relaxed and fun approach to the piano.  Jean teaches all ages with an emphasis on beginner and intermediate students.  Come and find out how much fun the Piano can be!!!!

 

 

 

Voice

Marco Bonito Marco Bonito:    A gifted Vocalist and voice instructor, Marco comes to us from the West Coast.  Within the San Francisco Symphony Chorus, his voice contributed to a Grammy win for the London/Decca recording of Carl Orff  "Carmina Burana"  and to Carmine Coppola's heavenly choir resounding in the Vatican sequences of Paramount's "The Godfather, Part III.  We are honored to have him on staff!  Welcome Marco!

 

 

 

 

Bagpipes

Harry Cook Harry Cook:  Harry's interest in the Bagpipes came be traced to his mother of Scottish Descent.  Having grown up on the border between New York, Lake Champlain and Canada, he heard bagpipes on the radio.  After moving MA, Harry joined the Sutherland Pipe Band in Newton, MA.  Harry has been a competitive piper since the early 70's and has won numerous awards.  A patient teacher and great player, we are pleased to have him here.

 

 

 

Flute

Pamela Mallette Pamela Mallette is a professional flute maker and a graduate from the Boston Conservatory of Music. After having taught at Thearls Music Center in el Cajon, CA, she has performed with various chamber music groups and Longy School of Music. Pamela is also a flutist for the Harvard Musicological Society and performs regularly on Beacon Hill in Boston.

 

French Horn, Violin, Fiddle, and Beginner Piano

Jennifer Bastien:  Jenn is a great Horn player with years of experience in performance and teaching both single and double horns.  Jenn also teaches Violin and Piano here!  We are very proud to have her here on our staff!  Welcome, Jenn!
